Before you begin

How this drill works.

You are the on-duty Cyber Security Operations Centre lead at Boteti Regional Bank, a fictional mid-sized Batswana retail bank with 800 staff, branches across the country, and prudential oversight from the Bank of Botswana. The morning starts quietly. That will not last.

Ten scenarios play out in incident-timeline order. In each, you pick one response. Correct calls stack a readiness score and a streak. Wrong calls do damage. After each choice you get a full debrief so you can see the reasoning, and a chapter-by-chapter recap at the end.

All organisations, people, and events in this drill are fictional. The regulatory framing, threat patterns, and control expectations are drawn from real Southern African incidents.

Chapter zero

You are Kabelo Motsumi, on-duty CSOC lead.

08:45. Monday. The Gaborone head office is filling up. Your Francistown branch has opened for the day. Your coffee is still hot. Your phone starts to ring.

Trainer notes

Use this drill inside your organisation.

This tool was designed as a practical companion to Augmenta's awareness programme. It works well as a warm-up for a boardroom exercise, a lunchtime session with a security team, or a scored round-robin for department heads.

Boards and executives

Focus on chapters 4, 5, 6 and 9 - escalation, media handling, the ransom decision, and the regulator engagement. Debate the choices as a team before revealing the debrief.

Technical staff

Focus on chapters 2, 3, 7 and 8 - containment reflexes, backup discipline, and insider signals. The right answer is often the boring answer; the drill rewards it accordingly.

Whole organisation

Run all ten chapters as a single sitting. The score is less important than the debrief conversation - assign a note-taker and capture the local factors that would change your answer on the day.
